Performing Opportunities

All the children from the youngest upwards have frequent opportunities to perform – in small studio shows and also every second year in the Playhouse Theatre.

In October 2009, the School performed the ballet Coppélia and the pantomime Aladdin at the Peoples Theatre, Heaton. Past full theatre productions have included e.g. Hans Andersen, A Christmas Carol, The Nutcracker, The Wizard of Oz, a 50th Anniversary Show and many more.

Studio productions have included Salad Days, Christmas Frolics, Summer Madness etc.

Our dance tours with Dance Kaleidoscope have taken us around the world e.g. Florida 2000, performing and giving workshops to children.

Senior students take part in Opera Ballet with Opera Live and light musical programmes with the Ravenswood Singers.

In 2007 a Performance competition was held at the Priory Theatre, Tynemouth. Earlier that year a Choreography course was run by Vincent Hantam, Principal Dancer, Scottish Ballet.

Dance is a performance art so performance is a very important part of the whole dance experience whether or not the child wishes to continue to a professional level. Performing is not only fun but develops confidence and the ability to express feelings.
